29 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the monuments of the righteous,
30 saying, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.’
31 Thus you witness against yourselves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets.

Play Video - Ain’t Gonna Do It
Ain’t gonna do it!
I have made this statement before!
I swore I would never be like my Biological father, “Ain’t gonna do it.”
Transition Statement: I am sure all of us have made a statements like this before!
WE:
I am never gone to be like that person (Neighbor, family member, stranger).
Have you ever made the statement “I would never do that!”
As a teenager we all have made this statement, “I will never be like my parents!”
You know … some of those dumb statements your parents would make .....
..... “Do you want me to stop this car right now?”
..... “If all your friend would jump off a bridge would you do it!”
..... “Your grounded!”
You swore you would never make those statements!
You swore you would never be like them!
Do you remember that first time you made the same statement your parents made to you?
You looked in the mirror or your spouse said to you, “That sounded just like your parents!”
But you swore you would never do that!
There are other things that we may have swore we would never do ......
You would never move away from home/you would never stay in your home town!
You would never have kids
You would never eat a certain food / Taste buds changed as you go older
YOU SWORE YOU WOULD NEVER WEAR PINK! (Look at my shirt!)
You swore you would never do that!
Transition Statement: I am sure all of us have made at lease one, if not more than one of these statements!
WE:
Maybe you have made some statement like this that are a little more serious .......
“They swore they would never .......
Cheat!
On a test (Expound on this)
someone out of money (Tell the Story of Shelly getting milk)
on my spouse (Expound on this)
Become physical!
Sexually [until you were married] (Expound on this)
Bullying [You were bullied in school] (Expound on this) FB
Physically hitting someone (Expound on this) Road rage
Do Drugs! (Expound on this)
I swore I would never drink Alcohol like my dad did!
You swore you would never do that!
The bad news is YOU DID IT?
Transition Statement: Do you know Jesus heard the Pharisees and Scribes make the same statement?
GOD:
Let’s look at this last Woe Jesus issues out to the Pharisees and Scribes.

32 Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers.

Its a typical start to the Woe ....
Jesus points out the fact that the Pharisees and scribes had been having tombs and monuments erected.
This was done to pay tribute to the Prophets of old.
Decorating them out of respect for the Prophets.
Jesus reminds them that their Fathers killed these Prophets!
The very ones they are honoring (with monuments and tombs), their forefathers persecuted and killed.
Jesus shares with us how the Pharisees and Scribes response .....
(30) ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.
What are they saying ..... I would never do that!
One of the benefits of living today and not back in the day and time we read here is .....
We know what is coming!
We know that Jesus is going to be arrested, beaten, hung on a cross and will eventually die.
All at the hands of the Pharisees and Scribes!
The Pharisees try to deny they would do such a thing as their forefathers.
But We know Jesus knew their hearts and what they were filled with!
Verse 32 Jesus say to them, “Fill up then, the measure of your fathers.” (HUH?)
This may confused some people! I know it did me!
Reading a couple of different translations I ran across “The Passion”
Go ahead and finish what your ancestors started.
The phrase “Fill up” in the Greek is one word and it literally means “Up to the Top” “No more room.”
Jesus tells them their hearts are filled up (completely, no more room for anything else) the same thing their forefathers hearts were filled with.
What is He talking about? They are going to Kill Jesus is just a few weeks from now!
Go ahead and finish what you your ancestors have started .... Crucify Jesus.
(We know where this leads them (Damnation)!
Go ahead and continue sinning, you know where it will take you .....
Cheat (on that test, someone out of money, on your spouse)
Physical (Sexually: premarital/extra-marital) (violent)
Do Drugs
Transition Statement: This morning, I think the majority of the people in this worship center would never make the statement “I am going to Cheat today … I am going to physically assault someone today .... I am going to do Drugs today.” (Would not dream of saying this!)
YOU:
Where do you stand with this situation?
I might be going out on a limb but I believe the majority of the people would say, “I would never do that!
Maybe you’ve swore you would never (Affair, addiction) ...... but you did!
Maybe you are there right now and sadly you have been doing it without conviction: you had no plans to stop up to this moment!
If that is the case, I think what Jesus would say to you is ....
Go ahead and finish what your ancestors started!
Go ahead and continue sinning, you know where it will take you!
But I have some good news for those who long to change this WOE into a WOW!
Instead of saying, “I ain’t gonna do it” you are going to start saying, “I am gonna do it!
What are you going to do .... REPENT!
All you have to do is REPENT!
And then Jesus reveals to us, in his word, what we can do as we move forward .....
Guard Yourself
How?
Watch your words!
Words are powerful! (Life and Death) (God used to create)
Satan Listens
Nothing wrong with saying “I ain’t gonna do that!”
But .... Our Actions need to line up with what we are saying!
Watch how you act!
Pharisees/ scribes tried to act Holy and Righteous (Building Tombs and Monuments)
Be careful elevating yourselves so HIGH! The fall could kill you!
Watch your heart!
The Pharisee/scribes allowed their hearts to be filled with exactly what their ancestors hearts were filled with “MURDER!”
Altar Call
WE:
I shared with you that I never wanted to be like my dad ......
But as the years have passed I long to be like my heavenly Father.
You would never do (whatever it was you swore you would never do)
We have made the statement we would never be like that person or like our mom or DAD.....
You never was going to be like your parents (Your dad!)
But as time has gone by we should long to be like our Heavenly Father!
, BUT, We do want to be more
We said we would never do it .... but if we put our trust in God, He will see us through it .....
He will help us .....
Guard our words
Watch how we act
Guard our Hearts.
